What is the No Spend Challenge?
The No Spend Challenge is a budgeting challenge where you will intentionally limit spending for one month. The goal is to become more mindful of your spending habits, save money, and pay off debt.

- Fill in the Month and your No-Spend Days Goal. The goal is the number of days in the month that you commit to following the no-spend plan.
- Fill out your do not spend list. This is items that you refuse to purchase on the plan. For example you might put coffee, fast-food, craft supplies. Take a few minutes to really think about the kind of purchases that are setting you back!
- Fill out your exceptions list. Budgeting isn't about denying yourself time with family and friends. It is about living within your means and being aware of spending. An exception might be something like a holiday/birthday dinner. Make sure to think about your exceptions before the month starts. In order to have a successful budget, you will need to say no sometimes or an even better idea would be redirecting the plans to no cost activities when possible.
- Track your spending. Every. Single. Purchase. If you meet the goal, color the box for that day green. If not, it's OK! Don't be too hard on yourself. Color the box red so you can see where you messed up and think about how you can plan better next time. When things like this happen, keep notes to help remind you what worked and didn't work.
- At the end of the month, reflect on your spending. Were you able to save some money? How did it feel? What did you learn?
Tips for Success
- Set realistic goals: Don't try to cut out all of your spending at once. Start by making small changes that you can stick with.
- Find a partner: It can be helpful to have a friend or family member who is doing the challenge with you. This can help you stay motivated and accountable.
- Reward yourself: Set up a system of rewards for yourself for sticking to your budget. This could be something as simple as getting a new book or taking a day off from work.
- Don't give up: It's inevitable that you will slip up and spend more than you budgeted from time to time. Don't get discouraged. Just learn from your mistakes and keep going.
- Use a printable tracker: A tracker can help you keep track of your progress and stay on track. You can find a free printable tracker in this blog post.
