Looking for a quick and adorable sewing project? This little kitty keychain coin purse is the perfect mix of cute and practical. It’s small enough to hang on your keys or bag, but big enough to hold spare change, lip balm, or even a secret stash of candy. Plus, it’s a great way to use up fabric scraps and show off your love of cats. Grab your free pattern, a zipper, and let’s get started!

Step-by-Step Tutorial

  1. Download and print the free sewing pattern.
  2. Cut out all fabric pieces according to the pattern. Don’t forget the two 7 x 7 inch squares for the pouch base.
  3. Prepare the zipper: attach small zipper tab fabric pieces to each end of the zipper.
  4. With right sides together, line up the bottom pieces with the zipper edge and sew. Flip right side out and topstitch along the zipper edge for a clean finish.
  5. Repeat with the top pieces. Sew with right sides together, flip, and topstitch along the zipper.
  6. Make the keychain loop: fold fabric strip in half lengthwise and press. Open it up, fold edges toward the center, press again, then fold in half one more time to hide raw edges. Stitch down both long sides.
  7. Pin the keychain loop in place on the right side of your pouch, close to the zipper.
  8. Layer the two 7 x 7 inch fabric squares wrong sides together behind the kitty front and back pieces for stability.
  9. Place the zipper section face down onto the layered fabric squares. Sew all the way around the edges of the pouch.
  10. Trim close to the seam with pinking shears to prevent fraying.
  11. Flip the pouch right side out. For extra durability and a polished look, topstitch all the way around the outer edges to encase the seams.

All Done!

That’s it! You now have a sweet little kitty coin purse that doubles as a keychain. These make awesome handmade gifts or craft fair projects, and once you make one, you’ll probably want to sew a whole litter of them in different fabrics. Clip it to your bag, toss in your spare change, and show off your handmade kitty style wherever you go!

@abugandabean Here is a new simple sewing tutorial. I saw a coin purse like this of all places on Temu but it was such a cute idea. I tried to replicate it with this simple pattern and am happy with how it came out! This is just the right size for a cute little coin purse to attach to your keyring. I have the free PDF pattern up on my website. I had a bunch of 7 x 7 inch fabric squares so I was able to use those to easily cut out the pieces for the pattern. You will need at least two 7 x 7 inch squares for the back of the pouch. This turned out to be a very simple project and can be made in around 15 minutes. #sewingtutorial #sewingproject #easysewing #handmadewithlove #sewingtok #sewingideas #sewingpattern #diycrafts #crafttok #sewingfun #sewwithme #craftymom #craftymoms #beginnersewing #sewingtutorial #sewingforbeginners #learntosew #lovetosew #sewingmywayto10k #fyp #craftyideas #makethis #freepattern #EasySewingProject #SewingIdeas ♬ Enjoy the Moment - Zeca Zilocchi
